Visa to China

International students should normally enter China with an ordinary passport and an X1 (study) or X2 (short-term study) visa. Foreigners studying for more than 180 days should apply for an X1 visa, while those studying for less than 180 days (inclusive) should apply for an X2 visa.

★X1 visa holders must apply for a Residence Permit for Foreigners at the Exit and Entry Administration Department of Xi'an Public Security Bureau within 30 days of entry. The materials required for the visa application are as follows:：

□ One photocopy of the passport personal information page

□ One photocopy of the passport visa page (with entry stamp)

□ One photocopy of the “Temporary Accommodation Registration Form” issued by the local police station (for off-campus residents only)

Residence Permit Application

X1 visa must be converted into a long-term residence permit within 30 days of entry.

Students applying for a residence permit must book an appointment for medical examination at the "Shaanxi International Travel Healthcare Center".

Be sure to apply for an extension within the validity period of your current visa. Overstaying will result in a fine of 500 RMB per day.

Residence Permit Extension

International students holding a study residence permit must apply for a visa extension at the Exit and Entry Administration Department of Xi’an Public Security Bureau within 30 days before the visa expires. The materials required for the visa extension are as follows:

□ Photocopy of the passport and valid visa

□ One 2-inch photo (white background)

□ Photocopy of the Foreign Student Visa Application Form (JW202/JW201 Form)

□ Photocopy of the Temporary Accommodation Registration Form

□ Visa application form and official letter of study certification

★ Reminder ★ 

The physical examination should be carried out in the morning from Monday to Friday on an empty stomach. The results can be collected in the afternoon of the fourth working day after the examination. 

When going for the physical examination, you should bring one copy of your passport, four 2-inch photos with a white background, the original and copy of the JW202/201 form and the admission notice. 

The full set of physical examination fees is 303 yuan RMB. For partial physical examinations or certificate replacements, only partial fees need to be paid. 

Students who have already had a physical examination before entering China can bring the physical examination report for inspection. After authentication, a new physical examination report can be directly issued. If authentication is not possible, all or part of the items need to be redone.

After students have prepared the relevant materials, they need to make an appointment with the teacher in charge of handling visas to get other visa materials. 

Students should go to the Exit-Entry Administration Department of Xi'an Public Security Bureau with the full set of visa materials and the original passport to handle the visa. 

After the visa officer accepts the materials, a "Payment Notice" and a "Certificate Collection Voucher" will be issued. Students should pay the visa fee, get it stamped, and then return the payment slip to the visa counter.

Students can retrieve their passports with the "Certificate Collection Voucher" approximately seven working days later. 

The visa extension fee is 400 yuan for less than one year of extension, calculated from the date of submitting the materials.
